Easter at our House- “Babos” ever since
8 AprNearing Age 2- Tantrums, new words, and finding his own food
24 Mar
He is also saying many new words, like “nemo, puppy, cup (buc), choo choo (this means both a train and is the name of our cat), Joe (doh!), Jon, Dan, papa, please, sky, moon (he says is like he says balloon but does know the difference) juice, breakfast, cracker, hot!, poop, butts (this is mav’s verb for farting or pooping), Up ( he knows what up is, but he also says up when he want to play on the computer), Blue’s Clue (booze cooze) goose (for any large intimidating bird), cheese, cookie, cracker, clown, cars (this is said about 300 times a day), truck (guk), drums (bums), ball (this is for anything round, including things like grapefruit), socks, shoes, nana (mostly used for banana, but I think this is also turning into grandma’s name), Doe (Joe- this is actually the name for a guitar, but Maverick says Joe when he sees a picture of a guitar). He had done some word connections like Joe’s car and cracker please- but he acts like it takes a lot of effort.
It is so funny when Maverick gets hungry (or maybe just curious) and he will goto the cupboards in the kitchen and pick something out and bring it to us. Sometimes he hits the jackpot and grabs the familiar: crackers, raisins, teddy grahams. Other times he will grab the super sweet foods like marshmallows or chocolate chips and then come to us with a super sweet smile and “please”? Then, other times, he will bring the oddest items, like chow mien noodles, sardines, beef broth, or a packet of gravy seasoning or instant pudding. Or he will insist on having sour cream, because he thinks it is cottage cheese. Neil and I always get quite a laugh of Maverick’s choices.
Corn Cap Days, Grandma’s 50th
11 AugWe have had an eventful couple of weeks. Maverick got to go to his first Corn n Bean feed at Corn Capital days.
Everything is “Da”
10 Jul
Maverick likes to call everything “da”. He definitely knows who his dada is, but he also tends to think that everything else is da too. I am hearing “mama” a little less now, pretty much just when Mav wants something (is it starting already?)…. just a phase right? Mav is getting to like sippy cups now which is nice, but he is still a bit hooked on the the bottle. We brought him out in the lake in this floaty thing, and we found out that he likes it when he can touch, so it is nice that we can keep him shallow and let him touch his feet in the sand. He also climbed all the way up the stairs at the cabin (a couple times this weekend) which is quite a feat. Still not walking, but cruising along the furniture more, and much more steady on his feet. Tonite dad and Mav enjoyed an ice cream cone while watching Spider-man, Mav looked like he was in seventh heaven. Mav and I have been walking and biking like crazy, I roller bladed with Mav in the stroller last week too. I think he liked it, but it was absolutely exhausting for me. Now the City put gravel all over our streets so I guess that was the last time doing that…
Karate Baby and a Wrestler?
20 MayMaverick learned how to say “mama” during the week before mother’s day, what a fun gift. Now he says mamamama quite a bit, especially when he wants something. He has been saying “dada” for a while, but he would kind of drop it in here and there. He has been showing off his “mama – speak” by saying it over and over. He has learned so much in the past month. He is pulling himself into standing now, which is scary. He is now more used to the fall to the floor too. He loves to play with mom and dad’s cell phones, especially when there is a familiar voice coming from it. He is still unsure about grass. When I set him in the grass last night, he did this thing where he was holding up both his hands and one foot (imagine Karate Kid – but a baby sitting). He loves to yell and show off his voice. He doesn’t need his pacifier any more and I am glad – I love to hear him chatter about something that I know is very important. He is so interested in other kids, when he hears another child’s voice in the store, it’s like he knows it is someone like him and he wants to learn from them. Now changing Maverick’s diaper is like a wrestling match, If Maverick can crawl away from me before I can get his diaper and pants back on, he is the winner. He is ahead. He has been so excited about trying new foods, and it is fun to see him experience tastes for the first time. I hope he appreciates all types of foods like me. Please Mav, do not be a picky eater! Eat your veggies, and seafood, and the weirdest thing on the menu…I hear Mav waking up from the nap that he soooo resisted…
