Master Bedroom Progress!

2 Feb

After sleeping in the den for 3 weeks or so… we are ready to move back in our bedroom. The den was actually an awesome bedroom. I would consider staying there if it had a closet…

So we got the painting done, carpet in, fireplace and TV mounted. The bed is put together. All good stuff. I LOVE the bed, and comforter, glad we chose the dark wood to match the trim in the room, instead of fighting it. And the fireplace? Well for being an electric fireplace that is only 8″ deep, it really rocks. Amazing how you still watch a “fake” fire.

Now… our night stands don’t fit, and my little dresser (that I use for my jewelery box, PJ’s, etc.) doesn’t really work in there any more. So it seems we have to make due, or do a little more shopping, not so happy about that. But I am ecstatic about the rest of it.

Not quite complete yet (still awaiting shelf to go in between), but matching TV and electric fireplace.

Not quite complete yet (still awaiting shelf to go in between), but you get the idea

Coming yet, are the new windows, and the PS3/Blue-Ray player that Neil is going to geek out so we can play music and surf internet, etc from the TV. I can’t explain any more about that technology, it’s Neil’s thing, I just now that it sounds like I will really like it….

Got the Duvet Cover, Next is Paint

13 Jan

I am so excited to paint our bedroom and give it a new look. Since we moved in, it was the room that I disliked the most. Well on Saturday, we drove all the way to Becker Furniture World, and then ended up buying a bed at Slumberland in Willmar. Go figure. Becker was huge and had a ton of beautiful furniture. But their 50% off everything sale was a bust. 50% was off the suggested retail, and sometimes their price was much lower then the inflated retail, making the 50% off price only $100 or so less then their normal sale price. But, we got some good ideas, and a great deal on a bed frame at Slumberland.

So then the next step was to find a Duvet Cover or Comforter so we can choose a paint. Here is what I found on Ebay.

Here is the Duvet Cover Set I found for $70. It is washable micro- suede and it also comes with a bedskirt, 2 shams ( Neil learned what these are) and 2 throw pillows.

We did a lot of searching online, then some shopping at Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc. Finally I got smart and shopped on ebay. I think I got a great price on this new 6 Piece Duvet Cover Set for $70 + Free Shipping. Also, funny thing, I was outbid and lost the bid to another bidder at $79.77, but the sellers offered me a second chance offer at $70. So I actually got it for the price I bid, and the person that outbid me paid more.

Our carpet is a greenish/blue. They also had the set in green, but we chose the blue. Hopefully I don’t change my mind. I won’t, I never do that. :)

Transforming Baby’s Room

20 Nov

Here is one of our first projects in the new house. We got rid of the pukey flower wallpaper and painted the baby’s room peach on the bottom and sky on the top. We first tried to paint over the wallpaper unsuccessfully (it started to bubble). Then stripped it which was a lot of work. Neil patched and sanded all of the walls which was a lot of work and even more of a mess. Jackie chose a bible stories border which has lots of color in it and matches the funky teal doors and trim that have been in the room since the house was built. Maverick, of course, helped us to paint.
