Sunny Orange Bathroom!

20 Feb

Here is our itty bitty bathroom with the bright yellow vanity from the 1970′s.   Before this bathroom was cream and blue, with a diamond wallpaper border on one wall.  It was quite an eye sore.  The inspiration behind the re-creation of this bathroom was this awesome Bill van der Hagen print that I got from my brother Joe for Christmas.  This room when from feeling dull and dirty to feeling vibrant and fun with some “warm n toasty” paint on the bottom and “forever gold” on top. This photo does the sunflower print no justice… see what it really looks like here.

Spunky new look in kids’ bathroom

9 Dec

A project that I wanted to get done while on baby leave was to paint the kids’ bathroom and give it a new look. Before it was a light/dirty yellow, with one wall walllpapered. After MUCH effort removing one little wall of wallpaper (and some help from Mom and Joe), I discovered WHY it was covered up. The wall was really beat up, but we fixed that. Now a bright and fun yellow (my favorite color) and a colorful tropical fish border makes this bathroom funky and cool. Love it and happy to have gotten it done. It was an easy project that made such a difference. The wallpaper is from Compass Kids, which has so many cute papers (I also got the border for B’s nursery when he was born).

Master Bathroom Project – TV, Tub, Tile!

22 May

1. Well this is how it started. I was in Menards and I saw a Jacuzzi tub for sale. Real cheap. So I called Jackie and we bought it. Thus the project began…………

2. The first improvement was the ceiling and the fan. The ceiling looked yellow but was actually white. To much electrical heat over the years. Painted that and replaced the fan which was locked.

3. After the first day here is what happened. Tore out the tub. What a JOB! Needed to take a sawsal to the tub and removes in pieces. Luckily Mark was there to help haul out.
We had some electric in the bathroom that need to be removed. Its to old to put back in and will need to be replaced.

4. I said to Jackie, “what if I put a tv in the bathroom?” We had a perfect wall with access and with technology today, a flat screen could fit in between the walls. The problem was this. How do I water proof it and make it look pleasing to the eye. So a little research and I found a mirrored glass. The glass is mirrored on one side but when a bright image is behind t, it shows that image. Long story short, when the tv is of you see yourself in the mirror. When the tv in on, you see the tv. Cool. Movies, tv or even xbox can be played with a wireless controller now in the hotub. The Wii may get a little tricky:) Got the plumbing routed in. No leaks! 2 JBL marine speakers in the ceiling. Only stereo sound. No surround. Maybe next time. Connected directly to the tv so no amp! Added some mood lights with a dimmer. Thats Howie on deal or no deal. Amazing what is available on the digital cable. Found music stations. Bonus!

5. Remember when I said the whole project started in Menards and I found a cheap tub? Well, Jackie and I unboxed the tub to see it before we installed it. The tub I bought would not fit me in it. It was to small. HA. It was not comfortable to sit. So we brought it back and bought this one. Thank god we tested! My brother Dan came over to help me install the tub. It was a half day project because we needed to cement the tub floor and make it level. Minimal cussing and swearing was done on that. NOT

6. Here comes the help. Maverick has been helping out a lot in this project. Is it painting or mudding? Mav is an artist so he calls it painting with mud.

7. Finally some color. It gets tough on a project when looking at the same thing over and over. We going with a nature look. We worked with the counter top that was existing and that was about the only thing that stayed.

8. The first step of tiling is done! It was a big project that totaled 20 hours. There was lots of cutting because we incorporated a diamond pattern. Its a small investment of time when it will be enjoyed for years to come. Next is grouting.

9. The grouting and caulking(pronounced kôking) is done and we are startng to enjoy the bathtub. Maverick is a big fan and is always asking to take a bath in the “new tub”.
