Trying to Cure the Ewww’s… and more

11 Oct

-Lately, I get “Ewwww” at dinner time and it drives me crazy. Eww this, Eww that, Ewwing everything before they try it. When it comes to food, we don’t eat junk (usually) and I insist that they try everything on their plate before dismissing with a “I don’t like it”. This is out of:

1) my LOVE for all kinds of food and pure disappointment if kids grow up to be picky and miss out on all the delicious stuff out there (this is a value passed on to my dad as we tried food like escargo, lamb, and jalepenos smothered with hot sauce as kids- the last one was for $20, probably another blog)
2) our EFFORT to give our kids good that will be healthy for their body and provide real nutrients rather then food that has 20 ingredients and preservatives most of which we don’t even know what they are. Neil is probably the driving force behind this which I am thankful for. It is easy (and cheap) to eat crap.

So if my kids give me an “ewww” after they try it, I will find fruit or something to help fill them up, but I will not make them a separate meal or cater to their pickiness.

OK, done with that rant. Off to some other random thoughts:

-CJ turned 1. Yes, I will say that again, my baby is 1. How can time seems to go so fast, but in the same respect, seem so long ago? It seems like ions ago she was just a little peanut in my arms, now she is 1 and climbing stairs. We had a little party here where the fam came over. She got lots of purple clothes (Vikes +) and did not like the frosting on the cake, especially after she got it all over her hands and face. She is doing so good with table foods now and pretty much eats whatever we are eating (hopefully no ewww’s anytime soon). The other night I put chicken breast and cooked carrots in the food processor and she chowed it right down.

-B is such a sweetheart and stinker in one. Usually not at the same time. As the middle child, he whines alot and knows how to “push buttons” especially with M. On the flip side, he is so helpful and loving, hugs and lots of “I wuv yous” melt this mama’s hear. Him and M partake in lots of wrestling lately, which is allowed as long as it doesn’t lead to crying or hitting. And not before bed. He is getting better at bedtime, and actually fell asleep in Mav’s room 2 nights in a row (where we need him to sleep eventually), but then he reverted back a bit. We are experimenting with cutting out his naps to see how that affects his bedtime, since his 8:30 bedtime would turn into 10-10:15 after all his “night games”. I think it is helping but he is so tired and is still adjusting.

Coming Soon: The story of Mav learning to ride bike without training wheels, and the incentive that lead to it.

H does the Ewww just about every night and it p*sses me off!!! So irritating! He will also just sit down, look at it and say “I don’t like this.” Doesn’t matter that he’s eaten it 50 times before or never. So far, Maya eats just about everything that is on her plate and she does try everything. Fingers crossed.

Yep, M has always been a pretty good eater, but getting picker with age…. B likes to saw Ewwww just to say it but then actually eats it, but I fear he will also get picker as he gets older. They are still very good eaters overall, but I expect a lot and want them to ENJOY all kinds of food like their mama. : )
